Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool free?
Yes, the ALZ Converter is completely free to use.
Are my files stored on the server?
No, your files are only processed during the conversion and then deleted.
Which formats are supported?
You can convert your ALZ file to 7Z, RAR, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, and ZIP formats.
Is there a limit on usage?
There are no limitations on file size or number for the conversion process.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, the ALZ Converter is compatible with mobile devices and can be used through a browser.

The critical point here is: “Conversion” is not a magical format change; in practice, it is a re-archiving (repack) process.

  • ALZ content is extracted
  • File and folder structure is preserved
  • A new archive is created in the selected format

Supported conversions (scope of this page)

  • ALZ > 7Z
  • ALZ > RAR
  • ALZ > TAR
  • ALZ > TAR.BZ2
  • ALZ > TAR.GZ
  • ALZ > ZIP

How should you choose the target format?

  • ZIP: “Let everyone open it” goal. The widest compatibility.
  • 7Z: Modern archive standard. Generally good compression.
  • TAR: No compression, “package”. Widely used on Linux, it is fast.
  • TAR.GZ: The most common compressed package on Linux (tgz).
  • TAR.BZ2: Aiming for smaller output in some content, generally slower.
  • RAR: Delivery standard in some teams. Places with a “send RAR” procedure.

How to use? (single interface flow)

  1. Upload ALZ (drag and drop or select file)
  2. The tool analyzes the content:
    • number of files
    • folder structure
    • total size
    • password requirement (if any)
  3. Select target format (7Z/RAR/TAR/TAR.GZ/TAR.BZ2/ZIP)
  4. (Optional) adjust settings:
    • compression level
    • password protection
    • output name
  5. Convert
  6. Download (single file)

Advanced settings (must be in the central tool)

1) Compression level

  • Fast: The fastest process, generally larger output
  • Balanced: Default recommendation
  • Maximum: Aiming for smaller output, longer time

2) Password protection (optional)

The user can set a password for the new archive if desired.

  • Password confirmation (twice)
  • Warning text against the “I forgot my password” risk

3) Preserve folder structure

Should be open by default. Because if the folder organization is disrupted in corporate deliveries, the job collapses.

4) Output file name

Suggestion: originalName_format.ext

  • example: project_zip.zip, project_targz.tar.gz

Error messages (reduce support load)

When issues arise in these tools, the “understandable error” condition:

  • Password required: “The archive is password protected. Enter password to continue.”
  • Incorrect password: “Password is incorrect. Please check and try again.”
  • Archive corrupted/missing: “The file is damaged or has been downloaded incompletely. Please re-download and try again.”
  • Unsupported variant: “This ALZ variant is not supported. Try ZIP format.”

Use cases (real life)

  • Convert ALZ archive from the client to ZIP and distribute it to the entire team
  • Generate TAR.GZ for moving to a Linux server
  • Pull the archive standard to 7Z and consolidate archives into a single type
  • If corporate procedure requires RAR, convert ALZ to RAR

FAQ

Is my ALZ file encrypted, will it convert?

Yes; content cannot be extracted without entering the password.

Does the size necessarily decrease?

No. Size depends on content type and compression choice. The advantage of ZIP is often compatibility.

Will the folder structure be disrupted?

No. By default, the folder structure is preserved.

What is the difference between TAR and TAR.GZ?

TAR only packages. TAR.GZ packages and compresses with gzip.
