What does the ARC Converter do?
This tool opens archives with the .arc extension, extracts the content, and converts it by repackaging it into the target format you choose. So the logic of the process is as follows:
- Extract ARC content
- Preserve file names + folder structure
- Create a new archive in the target format
ARC Dönüştürücü

Why do I emphasize “variant” so much?
Because the .arc extension does not guarantee a single standard. There are different types such as classic SEA ARC (old BBS/DOS era), FreeArc ARC (a different format), and Internet Archive ARC (web crawl container). The tool cannot say “I converted” without understanding this difference.
Therefore, include the following promise in the product text:
- “Automatically detects ARC type; clearly states if unsupported.”
Supported conversions (central page scope)
- ARC to 7Z
- ARC to RAR
- ARC to TAR
- ARC to TAR.BZ2
- ARC to TAR.GZ
- ARC to ZIP
Which format should I choose?
If you don’t provide the user with a “selection guide”, you will receive support requests every day.
- ZIP: The widest compatibility. If you don’t want the customer/team to say “I can’t open it”, go with the default ZIP.
- 7Z: Modern archive standard, good compression potential in most content.
- TAR: No compression, just packaging. Fast and standard in Linux/DevOps workflows.
- TAR.GZ (TGZ): TAR + gzip. The most common compressed package on the Linux side.
- TAR.BZ2 (TBZ2): TAR + bzip2. Sometimes produces smaller output, generally slower.
- RAR: Delivery standard in some teams. (Note: RAR production may not be supported in some environments due to licensing/infrastructure restrictions; if the tool supports it, produce it, otherwise lock the RAR option as “unsupported”.)
Tool flow (at UI/UX level)
- Upload ARC (drag-drop / file select)
- The tool performs the following checks:
- “ARC type detection” (like SEA ARC / FreeArc ARC / IA ARC)
- Is there a password/encryption?
- File list + folder tree
- Total size + estimated output size band
- Select target format (7Z/RAR/TAR/TAR.BZ2/TAR.GZ/ZIP)
- (Optional) settings
- Compression level (fast/balanced/maximum)
- Protect with password (target archive)
- Output name (standard)
- Convert
- Download (single file)
Settings (detailed requirements on the central page)
1) Compression level
- Fast: time priority, output may be slightly larger
- Balanced: ideal for most users
- Maximum: size priority, takes longer
2) Password protection (optional)
- Encrypts the target archive (if you support ZIP/7Z/RAR)
- Password verification is required
- Warning “If you forget the password, you cannot access the file” is mandatory
3) Preserve folder structure
Default should be on. ARC content is often archived for “folder arrangement”.
4) Output name standard
Suggestion: originalName_format.ext
Example: archive_zip.zip, archive_targz.tar.gz
Error messages (part that reduces support costs)
- ARC type not supported: “This .arc file belongs to a different ARC format (e.g., web archive). Conversion is not supported.”
- Password required: “The archive is encrypted. Enter the password to continue.”
- Incorrect password: “Password is incorrect.”
- Corrupted/missing archive: “The file is damaged or has been downloaded incompletely.”
Use cases
- Convert an old/incompatible ARC file to ZIP to ensure everyone can open it
- Produce a TAR.GZ package for transferring to a Linux server
- Convert to 7Z to bring archives up to modern standards
- If corporate processes require RAR, RAR Converter > Convert ALZ Archive to RAR and Download”>convert to RAR (if supported)
FAQs
My ARC file won’t open; why?
The .ARC extension may belong to different formats. The tool should detect the type and state the support status.
Will the size definitely decrease?
No. If the content is already compressed, the difference may be small. The main value here is often compatibility and standard.
